Elefantes?

Children at work
A couple days ago our doorbell rang. I opened the door and found a young kid (11, 12 at most) at my door. I was just about to give him the "Thanks, I'm not interested" when he said he lived a few doors down and was just looking for some work I could give him to earn some "extra money". Not that working children is a life-changing event but in the six years I've lived in this neighborhood not a single time have I had anybody come and ask for "what can I do for you to make some dough?". I didn't have anything for him that day so I told him to come back Saturday morning. Then again, today, right on time he was here ringing my dorbell again. The grass was too wet so I asked him to come back in a couple days.
Kids this age rarely get up and say "I better go get me some work!". I'm certain that either his mom or dad are teaching him the value of work and I really praise that style of parenting. Life works exactly that way. You don't get anything back unless you work for it and the sooner you understand that concept before you go off on your own, the better.

Instant gratification
Hahahahaha. I think I have urinated my pants!!! :)))
I had a terrible week this past week. Just too much stressing work... so yesterday I had to find something to crack the pressure and make me laugh for a minute or so. I surfed the net for funny stuff and came across ebaumswolrd. I found a video that I was short of peeing my pants when I saw it. My wife didn't think it was THAT funny so I guess you girls may not find it as hilarious as the guys will. Check it out and let me know what you think.

This is NO coincidence!
This happens to me every day.
It doesn't matter what time of the day it is, when I feel like I have to go to the bathroom, I get up from my desk, head to the bathroom and what do I find? THIS :

Cleaning lady is holding the bathroom hostage while she cleans and there's nothing I can do about it but just RUN clear to the other side of the building where there's another bathroom with my eyes watering. But seriously, this is one of those coincidences that even if you tried to make it happen, it wouldn't. I even asked her the other day if this is something she does on purpose and she goes like "no, de que me habla?" (she's Mexican too by the way). She ain't fooling me though! I know this is no coincidence!!!
Sooner or later I'll unveil her plot.

Uvas on Steroids
So the other day, while eating lunch I came across the most GIGANTIC, HUMONGOUS grape I have ever seen in my life. I had to show it here so everybody can see what a Grape on steroids, a Super UVA looks like. I put the two biggest ones right next to a normal-sized grape for comparison purposes. Look and judge for yourself. Could this be a genetically modified grape? there's no doubt in my mind it is! otherwise, how else did they get these HUGE?

I read a little about GE or GMO fruit and the main reason for this is to make fruit more resistent to insects or plague by transferring genes from other fruits. I would have to guess these grapes have some PLUM genes in them! :). Anyway, they taste good and their consistency is probably better than the grapes I used to eat when I was 10. I'll keep you posted if I start growing a third eye...

Gringolandia

The many faces of Katrina
I almost started writing about Katrina the other day but it was so much to take in and process that I really couldn't make a sentence out of the whole thing. By looking at the pictures you can just tell there are scores of people that just lost it all. Even worse, that don't have a place to go. I've heard many say "Well, they knew it was coming. Why didn't they leave?" Well, hello! they didn't have a place to go! most of the affected are poor, elderly or just couldn't go anywhere. I also see people going crazy and DEMANDING that they are taken care of. I rush to judge, but then think about it for a minute and wonder "what would I do?" ... "what would YOU do?" ... I mean, it's been a week, you stink like sewer, are in the Super Dome with 24,599 other people that stink like you (or worse), with little or no food, no water, and your two kids are tired and crying (and have been for the past 72 hours). I'm not sure anybody would have the tolerance to just sit there and hope a bus will come pick you up next.
Then you have the looters. Before I rush to judge again, I would separate this group into two. The looters that are starving, have been swimming in chest-deep water for hours and happen to swim pass a Walmart and go in for supplies, for FOOD. I don't justify them but hey, the ATM machine is underwater and chances are, there's not a cashier to charge you for your stuff. So they take it (maybe one or two will leave an "IOU" post it on the register, some will not. On the other hand, you have the people that plain STEAL from the store. TVs and other electronics (which you can't use because THERE'S NO POWER!), 10 pair of shoes, jewelry, cash, GUNS. And on top of that, some get angry that police treat them as criminals and shoot to kill. I can't help but think "What is wrong with these people???" seriously, when you try and benefit from such a tragedy you've hit rock bottom.
Anyway, I think I (like most of you all) will continue to stay tuned to developments of this tragedy and hopefully some relief is brought to the people that REALLY need it and that REALLY deserve it.

ps. oh! I forgot to mention. Depending on the mood of the day I might write in English or Spanish. Today I just felt like writing in English...
